Southwest President Tracy D. Hall selected to Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis board; Memphis Business Journal’s Power 100

By Diana Fedinec

Dr. Tracy HallCongratulations to Southwest President Tracy D. Hall on her appointment to the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis Memphis Branch board of directors Jan. 1 for a three-year term.

The St. Louis Fed is located in the Eighth Federal Reserve District, which includes all of Arkansas and portions of six other states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. The St. Louis Bank serves most of eastern Missouri and southern Illinois and has branch locations in Little Rock, Louisville and Memphis.

“I am honored by this appointment and look forward to working with my fellow board members,” President Hall said. “The U.S. economy was hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic, exposing the entrenched disparities that impact many American families. I am excited to be a part of this diverse group of experts and economists where I can share my perspective and institutional knowledge in our nation’s collective effort to help families recover and every American seize the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.”

In 1913, when Congress established the Federal Reserve System, it also created 12 Federal Reserve Districts across the county each with a Federal Reserve Bank that serves member banks in that district. Members of each of the Federal Reserve Districts work together to ensure a stable banking system and a healthy economy through their collective knowledge of local economies, leadership, community involvement and diverse interests. Each Reserve Bank board of directors has nine members. The Eighth District's three branches—Little Rock, Louisville and Memphis—each have a board of seven directors.

MBJ names President Hall among Memphis’ most influential leaders for second consecutive year

Memphis Business Journal (MBJ) has selected President Hall as a member of the  2022 Power 100 Group.  According to MBJ, the group is a list of 100 people considered to be influential leaders, decision-makers and the ones to get business done in their respective fields.

MBJ wrote of Dr. Hall:

“Asked to define leadership, Dr. Tracy Hall said it is the ability to see something that needs to be done, and then do it. And that about sums up the way she has handled her tenure so far as the president of Southwest Tennessee Community College (SWTCC). From making the enrollment process more accessible when she took over in 2015 to steering a college with more than 7,000 students through the pandemic, Hall has been a true leader through it all. SWTCC partnered with Shelby County Schools to launch the Medical District High School in 2021. Most recently, where others saw a commercial pilot shortage, Hall saw a potential employment opportunity and found a way to equip SWTCC to help fill that gap with a new two-year aviation program.”

Congratulations, Dr. Hall, on your esteemed honors!
