Southwest President Dr. Tracy D. Hall, together with members of her senior cabinet, convened the 2022 Fall Convocation Aug. 18 with a clear and collective message to keep the college relevant in an ever-changing world. Employees packed the Nabors Auditorium to hear the president’s message and future plans for the college.

“You can see the evolution of the college since we ignited Strategic Plan 2020,” Hall said. “Over the years, we have successfully managed to elevate our name, our recognition, our enrollment and our graduation rate. With Focus 2025, we will reset and reimagine strategies that will take us to the next level of prominence and relevance because times dictate that’s what we do.”

Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Kendricks Hooker opened Convocation with a snapshot of the new strategic plan. He said that one of the overarching strategic goals is to make Southwest a resource hub for community and business partners through the new Center of Emphasis -  the Southwest Workforce Solutions Center.

“The college is looking to deepen and foster more local collaborations within the Memphis community and to re-think the student experience with long-lasting approaches to the college’s workforce development programs,” Hooker said. “The Center’s emphasis on CTE programs such as automotive, business, engineering, information technology and health care, will help drive those collaborations.”

Hall commended Southwest leadership and staff for their collaborative commitment across the college to stay laser focused on the college’s priorities – students, community and institutional excellence.  “Thank you all for your hard work in supporting and engaging students to succeed and accomplish their academic and professional goals,” Hall said.
