Southwest scholarships are dependent upon availability of funds and may not be awarded every year.

A completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application is required for all types of financial aid awarded at Southwest including scholarships. You must complete a FAFSA application even if you do not believe that you are eligible for grant programs.

Minnie Ash/IL Smart.com Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship is available for tuition/fees for the academic year including a $300 textbook award. Scholarship is renewable provided a 2.8 GPA is maintained. Recipient must never have been on academic probation or suspension. Two references by Southwest faculty members from first year of scholarship are required for renewal.

Criteria

  1. Full-time student
  2. High school GPA of 2.8
  3. Assessed at college-level performance
  4. Any major
  5. Student must demonstrate financial need and strong commitment to academic excellence
  6. Award is based on past performance and potential to succeed
  7. Applicant must have received a high school diploma or a GED to be eligible.

References

Two required. One from counselor or principal of high school from which applicant graduated (if graduated in past two years); other from applicant's choice.

Procedure

Submit application (opens new window) to the Southwest Tennessee Community College Financial Aid Office by March 15.

Selection Process

Southwest Tennessee Community College Scholarship Committee narrows field of applicants to three candidates, whose applications are forwarded to Inventory Locator Service, Inc., for final selection.
