Nick Woodard makes history in record-breaking game during Saluqi Spirit Week

Nick Woodard made history during Southwest’s “Saluqi Spirit Week” game against Roane State Community College on Feb. 10, 2024, becoming the 14th player in the men’s basketball program to record 1,000 career points. He is the first player since 2002 to reach the milestone and the only player to score 1,000 points 'totally' at Southwest since the merger of Shelby State Community College and State Technical Institute at Memphis in 2000.

The mens and women's Saluqi basketball teams celebrated Saluqi Spirit Week with a doubleheader against Roane State at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.
 
In the women's game, freshman forward Jaliyah Zackery scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 91-86 victory. Also scoring in double figures were sophomore guard CorTayza Flowers (17), freshman forward Deziya McClendon (16), sophomore guard JaNia Wright (13), and freshman guard Mykyla Allen (11). McClendon was the top rebounder with 10 boards while Flowers dished out seven assists to lead the team.
 
The Southwest men won against Roane State 84 to 83 points. Sophomore's forward Nick Woodard scored 29 points and guard Jaden Taylor scored 17 points to lead the Saluqi team. Taylor also led the team with seven rebounds and seven assists.
