Police Chief Earnest Greenleaf reviews campus safety measures during the College’s inaugural security summit.

Southwest hosted its inaugural virtual Security Summit Jan. 31, 2024, aimed at providing essential campus safety insights.

The summit was led by Michael Boyd, chief of administrative services, and Ernest Greenleaf, executive director of police services and risk management. Campus staff, security officials, and students attended the summit to learn valuable tips about how to enhance their safety while on campus.

Greenleaf shared several tips about how to keep motor vehicles safe and gave an overview of safety measures implemented at Southwest. These include the RAVE App for real-time campus alerts, surveillance cameras that can read license plates, the Southwest Emergency Response Team (SERT), comprised of trained members ready to address emergencies and safety threats, and more.

The summit was organized in response to the increasing crime rates in the city and the wider Mid-South region. Ensuring the safety and well-being of students and employees is a top priority at Southwest, and the summit served as a proactive measure to safeguard the campus community.

A Q&A session was held at the end of the summit for those who had additional safety questions or concerns. For those who missed the summit, we encourage you to watch the recording to benefit from these invaluable safety tips. To watch, click here.
