Financial Aid Verification

If selected for verification, the student must complete a Verification Worksheet and submit copies of the parent(s)/student/spouse Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Federal Tax Transcript, a signed tax return and any other untaxed income documentation to Southwest. The Financial Aid Office may request other information upon review. Required documents can be uploaded to the Financial Aid Documentation Upload Page.

Students are selected for verification by the Department of Education. Institutions must verify the information provided by the student/spouse and/or parents before an award can be offered to the student. Southwest students who are selected for verification will receive a request on their Dashboard at the My.Southwest student portal. You will need to complete the required verification worksheet. It is very important to respond promptly to all requests for verification information from the Financial Aid Office. Delays in response or submission of incomplete verification documentation will delay the offer of a student’s financial aid award package.

In an effort to adhere to federal privacy laws, the Southwest Financial Aid Office restricts the release of certain private student information. All communications regarding your financial aid will be sent to your Southwest email or posted on the Student Dashboard account. Students can contact us personally to check the status of their financial aid application and awards. Due to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), often we will be unable to release information to third parties (i.e., parents, spouses, etc.) without a signed release form on file from the student. To sign a Release of Information form, students must complete the form in person in the Admissions and Records Office or the Financial Aid Office on either the Macon Cove, Maxine A. Smith Center,  Union Avenue  and Whitehaven locations.
