Vice President of Student Affairs Jacqueline Faulkner will be one of just four honorees to receive the Memphis Grizzlies HBCU Empowerment Award this month.  The Memphis Grizzlies annually recognizes local Historically Black College and University (HBCU) alumni who make significant contributions to the community in the fields of education, health and fitness or service.  The Grizz will donate $1,000 in Faulkner’s honor to Jackson State University, her alma mater.

Joining Faulkner in this honor are:

  • Jana Mitchell, Esq, Corporate Attorney for AutoZone (Hampton University)
  • Bobby White, Chief Public Policy Officer at Greater Memphis Chamber (Morehouse)
  • Corey Allen, President and Executive Director of the HBCU Awareness Foundation (Grambling State University)

“I am honored to be selected as a 2020 HBCU Empowerment Award recipient by the Memphis Grizzlies among such an esteemed group of community leaders,” Faulkner said.

“My work and advocacy in the education sector and commitment to increasing post-secondary educational attainment of at-promise students in access mission institutions, such as HBCUs and community colleges, is truly my passion work. It is tremendously humbling to be recognized for those efforts. I am grateful to the Memphis Grizzlies organization for this recognition.”

Faulkner and the other honorees will celebrate with the Grizzlies at the Feb. 3 game against the Detroit Pistons and will be special guests at the Grizzlies’ HBCU Awareness game Feb. 28. Congratulations, VP Faulkner!
