The ABC room in the Farris building was filled with holiday cheer, music and dancing as faculty and staff gathered at the annual holiday open house Dec. 4 at the Macon Cove Campus.

Southwest culinary arts students prepared a scrumptious spread for all to enjoy that included beef brisket, oven roasted chicken, gumbo, alfredo pasta, fruits and vegetables, cheese, dips, and handmade pastries and desserts.  Culinary Arts Program Coordinator Chef Steven Leake and his students received a warm thank you for preparing the feast. “We couldn’t have all this great food without Chef Leake and his students,” said Associate Director of Recruitment Shawn Boyd, who emceed the gala.

President Dr. Tracy D. Hall welcomed everyone to the event and extended a special thank you to faculty and staff for their hard work in moving the College in the right direction. “We are gaining national attention for our unprecedented successes,” Hall said. “Our laser focus on students is working.  Thank you for teaming up for the benefit of our students.”

The College also collected 1,207 donated canned goods and other food items for the Memphis Food Bank as part of Tennessee Board of Regents’ state-wide food drive benefitting local food banks.  Each donated food item earned the donor a chance at winning a 55-inch big screen TV and other prizes. Professor of Natural Sciences Juliann Waits was the big winner, walking away with the TV. Other winners won an Amazfit Bip Smart Watch and an Echo Show 5.
